While the Provider Collaborative Board currently consists of the five provider NHS trusts, our ambition for the future is to create a wider collaborative with other providers.

This is about collaborative working; the trusts themselves will remain as statutory bodies, and each chair and chief executive will still be accountable for their own separate organisations.

 

What is the Provider Collaborative Board?

  • The Provider Collaborative Board is the vehicle which allows the trusts to make joint decisions to benefit patients and communities across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
  • Chaired by Professor Mike Thomas, who is also Chair of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and interim Chair of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, the Provider Collaborative Board consists of all five trust's chief executives and chairs.
  • Professor Silas Nicholls, Chief Executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was appointed Lead Chief Execuitve of the Provider Collaborative Board in August 2025.  His role is to support the system to embed collaborative working.
  • The Provider Collaborative Board can make certain decisions within a framework agreed by the five trusts.
  • Funding for the trusts and Provider Collaborative Board is allocated through the NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board.  The Integrated Care Board also holds the Provider Collaborative Board to account for delivering its priorities.
